The Fall for Books Tag

fallforbookstag.png

Thank you Chelsea for tagging me! I haven’t done a tag in forever and was kind of in a tagging slump the last month…but this one was fun and simple, and I really enjoyed doing it! Everyone please go follow Chelsea, she’s super awesome and loves books and theater and ballet!

THE RULES

  • Please link back to this post so I can see your answers!
  • Have fun!

One of the first books you fell in love with

AmeliaBedelia

We’re going way back to when I was in first grade, when I used to read the Amelia Bedelia books. They’re about a housemade who takes all her orders literally (etc: she’s told to dust the house and so she gets some dust and tosses dust on all the furniture) and I thought these books were HILARIOUS. I remember reading these with my mom and I’d literally be on the floor laughing. I very fondly loved these books.

A book you knew you were going to love from the first page

29044

I knew from the second I read the first line of this book (The snow in the mountains was melting and Bunny had been dead for several weeks before we came to understand the gravity of our situation) that I was going to be all over it.

A book you didn’t think you would love as much as you do

17675462

Fun fact: when I first heard of the Raven Cycle I was like “that looks dumb” but then someone I really trusted said it was good so I was like “well I GUESS I’ll give it a try” and buddy read it with a friend and we promptly become obsessed and now it’s one of my all-time favorite series.

(The same “that looks dumb” first impression happened with Harry Potter as well…and look at me now.)

The character who will always have a place in your heart

25613472

I’m going to go with Julian from A List of Cages by Robin Roe. That kid was the sweetest and the saddest and just thinking about him hurts me. I couldn’t help but vote for this book in the best YA category of year’s Goodreads awards because of him.

Character you love on the page, but would never want to meet in real life

snake

Andrew Minyard. He is small and intimidating and downright scary, and even though I am not interesting enough for him to waste any of his attention on, I’d still be…very afraid of him (I always think of how he treated Kaitlyn (I mean, among others)). And YET, I love Andrew and can very much appreciate the utter uniqueness of his character. I love a broken jerk character (which is putting it very lightly with Andrew).

Literary couple you will ship until the day you die

17378527

I’m stealing Chelsea’s answer on this one because Adam and Ronan are my favorites forever. I was SO obsessed with them and their dynamic, for like….months. Remember when they framed their teacher for a heinous murder together? Jumped in acid pools? Were always fighting with each other? Romance at it’s finest. (Also manibus and mixtapes being best friends)

An author whose writing style you fell in love with

sun_375w

I’m going to go with Jandy Nelson for this one. I fell in love with her writing in I’ll Give You The Sun. Everything was so heightened and vivid, and I loved the way she conveyed the thoughts of her artistic characters- “She gives of light. I give off dark. (PORTRAIT, SELF-PORTRAIT: Twins: The Flashlight and the Flashdark).” She was also very on point with the heartache in this book because sometimes her words STRUCK me like knives to the chest. Her writing pained me so much, I loved it.

A book recommended to you by a friend/family member that you quickly fell for too

Shout out to Rachel at paceamorelibri for literally never failing me with her recommendations. I very quickly became invested in all of these books, intensely loved them all, and gave them all five stars. (No pressure, Rachel).

Piece of book-related merchandise that you had to own

I’m sharing TWO.

I got this Harry Potter mug from last month’s Owl Crate YA subscription box…..I LOVE IT.

One day I was looking around Etsy and saw these Raven Cycle buttons by Sunglitch and couldn’t help myself. I LOVE THEM THEY’RE CUTE.

  1. OMG I’m #honored…………. NO PRESSURE INDEED. I guess if I fail you in the future at least I still had a pretty solid streak going?? (Can I add ‘Steph gave four of my book recs 5 stars’ to my CV?? Is this a marketable skill??)

ANOTHER JULIAN omg I’ve really gotta read that book!!

    • If my book credentials could actually be used in resumes and cover letters I’d have SO MUCH MORE TO SHOW FOR MYSELF. Like uhh yeah I didn’t do a lot of extracurricular in college but I read 70 books last year.

JULIAN IS TRULY A CURSED NAME….will I ever meet one that doesn’t hurt me/make me angry?? Or both??

    • I KNOW!! They’re so pricey!! But I was dying to sign up for one so I went for Owl Crate because you get a lot for what you pay and because I liked the variety of what you get from them- it’s not *too* fandomy, like nothing obscure that I don’t know about, and I like their selection of books. I think their crates give you about $70 worth of stuff and I pay around $36? I don’t know how people do multiple boxes though because I am NOT made of money…. but Rachel did convince me to sign up for Book of the Month. So much of my money goes to books lol.
