Five-Star Read Predictions

TOP 5 TUESDAY summer (6).png

Rachel from pace, amore, libri challenged me to predict my own 5 star reads….and I have accepted! This challenge was started by Mercedes on booktube.  You pick out 5 books on your TBR that you think are going to be 5-star reads. When you finish, you can come back and make a post letting everyone know how you got on.

The Absolutist by John Boyne

In my recent post about books I’m thankful for, I posted a screencap from a conversation with Rachel telling me to read this because it’s painful. And since I live for painful WW II stories, and the last John Boyne book I read, The Heart’s Invisible Furies, was one of the best books I read this year, I would bet a lot of money this will be a 5 star read for me.

The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis

25812109

Another book I’ve heard is a painful read, I’ve had this on my shelf for about a gazillion years now. I’ve heard amazing things about it, and I think when I’m finally feeling brave enough it’ll be a 5 star read. Hopefully sometime within 2018.

The Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett

112077

Chelsea’s recommendations of the Lymond series have been without a doubt some of the most impassioned I’ve ever heard, and when we finally do a buddy read in just a few weeks, I will not be surprised at all to find that this is a 5 star book. Also, she told me that Laurent from Captive Prince is inspired from Lymond, as well as Leigh Bardugo’s Nikolai. HIGH PRAISE!

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta

Listen, I don’t even remember what this book is about, but I know Melina Marchetta’s Jellicoe Road left such an imprint on me that I’ve been saving this one (also on my shelf for a gazillion years) when I’m perfectly ready for it, because I fully expect it to be a 5 star read that will probably leave me highly emotional.

If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio

30319086

This book meets so many of my bookish requirements…I feel like I’ve put it off because I need to read it at the Perfect time to fully appreciate it. Rachel literally shoved this one into my hands so the time should be SOON! I’m hoping for a 5 star read.

Have you read any of these books?? What did you think of them? Do you think I can expect 5 star ratings?? What books do you think will be 5 stars? Let me know! Or make a 5 star prediction post of your own, I’d love to read it!

  1. I’ve had Female of the Species on my shelf for sooooo long. Every month I tell myself I’m going to read it but then…I don’t. But I also expect it to be great!

I’m so excited for our read of The Lymond Chronicles! I have to see about getting the books from somewhere…

    • That is the same with me and Female of the Species! I’m always like THIS MONTH and then the month passes and it’s still unread.

Hmmm is Lymond in libraries?? Or maybe from a website like Thriftbooks?

      • I really want to get them as ebooks so I can read them on my commute, because they’re HUGE and I don’t want to carry them around…but I also don’t want to buy them as ebooks lmao. Maybe I can request an ebook through my library, they do that sometimes…

      • Oooh that’s a good point about these being big books…carrying them around is not ideal. Maybe library ebook then purchase a physical copy to read at home??

      • I bought my Lymond copies new from Book Depository as trade paperbacks. They are still 500ish pages each, so a denser trade paperback, but not nearly as bad as lugging a hardcover around at least (which I’ve been doing recently because all of the things I have out from the library are hardcovers?!? Goodbye my shoulder/back!). It looks like there are copies available on Thrift Books though (and of the nicer 90s covers, the Scotland-esque ones with the rainbow spines that I own too). If you don’t care about covers, they were originally printed in the 60s and 70s and there are probably some mass-market terrible cover ones floating around too!

  2. Oooh good list! I really hope Lymond lives hp to expectations! The Absolutist is absolutely one of my expected top five reads as well whenever I get around to this. And obviously I loved If We Were Villains and can’t wait for you to read it!

    • I’m very excited for Lymond! It’s been FOREVER since I’ve read a series that sucked me in and took over my life……needless to say my desires for this series are rather high, lol. But no matter what I think it’ll be fun reading it with you guys!!

    • UH OH hahahah omg I just need to finally just READ If We Were Villains so I can stop using it for all my “to read” questions in tags and offer my actual opinion on it.

I feel like The Female the Species could be such an interesting group read!! I’d be down.
