Top 5 Tuesday: Characters I’d Team Up with To Rule the World

top 5 tuesday

Top 5 Tuesday is a meme by the fantastic Bionic Book Worm, and it explores a different bookish topic each week!

When I first saw this topic the first person that came to mind was Kaz Brekker. Then I thought, okay, I’m not trying to take over the world (a concept I’d still love to explore), and if this is a partnership, I’m unsure that this would go well because I’d be very intimidated by Kaz, and I feel like I may not get much say in world plans. So I took a more pragmatic approach and thought, who’s got leadership skills, is someone I would enjoy getting along with in ruling the world, and would help me get some good done at the same time? (I’m ever the Hufflepuff, I know).

Top 5 Tuesday: Top TEN Side Characters

TOP 5 FALL (6).png

Top 5 Tuesday is a meme by the fantastic Bionic Book Worm, and it explores a different bookish topic each week! And this week we got to choose TEN instead of five. :O

I feel like with every Tuesday when I make these lists, something is revealed to me. This week I realized that I like my side characters very, very loyal, the males tenderhearted and the ladies fierce and sassy (and fashionistas, apparently). This list was surprisingly easy to make, but I’m sure some character from another book I didn’t even think of will occur to me later and I’ll curse myself, but for now these are some of my all time fave side characters, not in any particular order.

Top 5 Tuesday: Retellings

TOP 5 FALL (5)

This week’s topic brought to light the fact that I really need to read more retellings…the number of books I had to choose from were a bit slim. BUT it turns out the most of the retellings I’ve read are retellings of Greek Mythology, and most of them end quite unhappily. #nice

Top 5 Tuesday: Buzzwords that make me NOT want to read a book

TOP 5 FALL (2).png

These were actually quite difficult to nail down, because there are many buzzwords that make me uninterested in a book, but I’m also open to giving things a chance if people say it’s good. Mostly, I’m lukewarm to a lot of things, but these five evoke an immediate NOPE from me. I’m not hating on them- they’re just not my thing.

There are many descriptors that grab my attention about books, but I thought really hard about the things that shoot a dose of book adrenaline to my heart and make me bypass my Goodreads TBR and head straight to Amazon.com. Perhaps they’re not all the buzziest of buzzwords…but they’re my buzzwords :’)

Okay, this was a lot harder than I expected. I think I need to read more fantasy books that are set in happier places. However, now that I’ve got all my choices laid out, I think they all represent rather different parts of me, interestingly enough.

Top 5 Tuesday: Male Leads

TOP 5 TUESDAY summer (5).png

Top 5 Tuesday is a meme by the fantastic Bionic Book Worm, and it explores a different bookish topic each week!

Upon completion of this list I realized I like my male characters to be the edgiest of the edgy and the softest of the soft. But mainly I like them to be borderline genius, have terrible parental figures at some point in life, and have a whole lot of sadness to get through. As my dear Richard Gansey III, who unfortunately does not appear on this list, once said, “Crushed and broken, just the way women like ’em.” Sorry, my guys. I loved putting this list together.

I really like this category, but I so wish I could say I’ve read a book over 1,000 pages. One day! I used the page count of the copies of these books I read, so I guess if I wanted to get REALLY accurate I’d look up the word count, but no one’s got time for that 😎

I can talk all day about crushes, because my heart is no stranger to them. Fictional, real…celebrity, which is a strange mix of fake and real. But narrowing it down to what I truly felt was boyfriend material (for myself) was a bit difficult. The list could go on, but these are a few recent (and some older) favorites.
