En route to Alaska / The Fall Book Tag

fall-book-tag.png

I have been BUSY recently. Too busy. I’ve managed to read one book in like, two weeks. But tomorrow I’m leaving to go on a roadtrip from Seattle to Anchorage, Alaska, and I’m very excited and hope to get some reading done while I travel.  A friend randomly called me up and asked me to help her move to Anchorage, so…how could I say no to that? I’ll be away from the internet for a week traversing the Canadian wilderness (literally camping), but hopefully when I come back I’ll feel more refreshed. I’ve been a little burnt out from posting and general online activity lately (I blame all the computer time at work).

I leave on a plane at 7:05 Saturday morning (RIP me), so I’m probably in the air as you read this 😀

ALSO it finally feels fallish outside so this tag feels appropriate. Thank you to the lovely Mischenko for tagging me for this one!! Please go check out her blog, she talks about books and music and animals and food (just to name a few things)!

This tag was created by Shanah at Bionic Bookworm, so please give her blog a visit as well! I recommend her Top 5 Tuesdays 🙂

I was also tagged by Noriko a looong time ago, so thank you too, Noriko! She’s so lovely and sweet, make sure to check her blog out as well!! She writes fantastically thorough reviews.

And lastly, I was also tagged by Alex at coffeeloving bookaholic (also a very long time ago)! Please do go check out her blog, I love her reviews and she’s always so good at putting a lot of passion into them and pointing exactly what it is she likes and dislikes about the books she reads.

The award was created by Maggie at Dreaming of Guatemala who stated:

This is an award for the absolutely wonderful writers all across the blogging world. They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.

Book Review: You Bring the Distant Near by Mitali Perkins

You Bring the Distant Near by Mitali Perkins ★★★★☆

Summary: It’s the 1970s and Tara and Sonia move from India to London and finally, to New York City, where they work on acclimating themselves to American culture while their mother resists. Flash forward to their daughters living in the 21st century, who have their own – different – problems to face.

And then I catch sight of my reflection. My watery face does look like my mother’s, but I remember the old man who gave us directions. I look closer at the water. I, too, can see the Das family imprint there now. I’m Baba’s girl, too, and nothing will change that.

I Dare You Book Tag

idareyou.png

I was tagged by Hadeer for this tag, and everyone else did it like, two weeks ago and I’m lagging, but better late than never, right? Thanks Hadeer! If you don’t follow her, I recommend checking out her blog, she writes really insightful and thorough reviews, and also posts original writing!!

RULES:
You must be honest
You must answer all the questions
You must tag at least 4 people

1. What book has been on your shelf the longest?

When I was born my parents had this book made called “Baby’s First Book” or something along those lines, and it’s basically about bringing home a baby from the hospital, and they had it personalized with my name and the names of my relatives and whatnot. So it was like “On February 11, a bouncing baby named Stephanie came into the world! Donna and Steven were delighted. Grandma Kay thought she was the most adorable baby ever.” It’s funny to read, especially since I don’t even call my grandmother “Grandma Kay.” It’s still on my shelf, so I think it’s a safe bet.

The Raven Cycle Book Tag

ravencycle__span

I recently realized I’ve just passed the 1 year anniversary of this blog becoming a book blog on September 12, when I posted my review of The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, effectively transforming this blog into a book blog because I needed a place to talk about it. It’s a terrible review, don’t go read it (I’m serious, I knew nothing about writing reviews). This series also rekindled my love of reading after college burned me out, and led me back to the book world :’)

The Liebster Award

3and3quarters.net

I’m procrastinating because it’s Friday and it’s been a long week, and Naty tagged me for this award and her questions were so pleasantly bookish I had to do them right away. Thank you, Naty!!

What book you wish you could un-read to experience it for the first time again?

Harry Potter. I mean, realistically I wouldn’t erase my mind of it because all my teen years were such an experience with it and my life literally revolved around Harry Potter and it taught me so much as a tiny youth, but I’d love to experience them again.

What’s your Hogwarts house?

Hufflepuff!

Obviously Carswell Thorne immediately came to mind. He cracked me up so much I would literally send screenshots of some of his dialogue to my best friend who’s never even read these books to make her laugh with me. What a guy.
