Listicle Tag

Thanks so much to Birdie Bookworm for tagging me in this fantastic tag by Not-So-Modern-Girl! This is such a fun tag! Check out their awesome blogs for more of it 🙂

Birdie’s listicle prompt was to name 5 exceptional book to movie adaptations!

I have to be honest, I’m not much a movie person, and I really haven’t seen many book to movie adaptations that I think have been super great. I am no seasoned movie reviewer. But I will list some ones that I love and that have stuck with me…so this will be more of a sentimental list.

But please, if there are any great movies out there based on books that you think are worth watching, please comment and let me know!!

1. Harry Potter by JK Rowling

Is there a book tag that can get past me that won’t include Harry Potter? Since the first movie came out when I was 9 years old, Harry Potter was pretty much my introduction of a book made into a movie. While there is a lot that I felt these movies did poorly, I do love them and they’re deeply imbedded in my heart. The first three in particular are the epitome of comfort and familiarity to me. While I’m not sure I’d list any of these movies as truly exceptional, they’re extremely sentimental to me!

2. Holes by Louis Sachar

Now this is a movie that I thought took its literature and made something really great with it. I first read this book and saw this movie when it came out when I was about 10, I’ve always thought that this movie really captured the heart of the novel, which, to me, is the most important thing in an adaptation. Love!

3. Atonement by Ian McEwan

I actually saw this movie before I read the book, and it was because I liked the movie so much that I decided to read it. Then after I read the book, I watched the movie again. I thought the movie was a great adaptation of the book- the style, the music, Saoire Ronan as Briony, and honestly…it doesn’t hurt that James McAvoy’s a main actor in it. Sorry not sorry.

4. Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien

This might get me in trouble, but… I like these movies more than I enjoyed the books. I was obsessed with these movies when I was in my early teens, and I’ve tried reading the books several times over the years because I loved them so much, but I could never get past the second book. The movies are gorgeous and fun, but I’ve always found the books so dense and not quite as charming…alas.

5. Life of Pi by Yann Martel
A fantastic book and a gorgeous movie. I read the book several years ago and only saw the movie rather recently, but from what I remember, it seemed to have followed the book very well, and it felt like another movie that really captured the heart of the book. Very good stuff.
