What Cats Do Book Tag

So I have like 23432380 tags people have nominated me for that I’ve yet to do, but instead of doing any of those, I guess I felt it was most important to do this cat tag that no one nominated me for. Uh. I just love cats.

I saw this on Holly @ Nutfreenerd‘s awesome blog, and this tag was originally created by Kate @meltingpotsandothercalamities!

keep-calm-danny-d-happy-birthday-party-onPurr: As cats do this when they’re happy or relaxed, what is the book that makes you happiest or relaxed?

I’m going to go with Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. When I think of a book that made me happy all the way through (as in, no major stress), this one is always the first to come to mind. This is book is very light and was just so much fun, and while not necessary “relaxing” it’s like a breath of fresh air compared to the heavier stuff I usually read. This is my happiest of happy books.

Twitch while dreaming: Have you ever dreamt of a book you read?17378527

I have definitely dreamed of Harry Potter, but I can’t think of anything specific at the moment, so instead I will recount a dream I had about Adam Parrish from the Raven Cycle. Basically, he was starring in a play (like a minor university production) alongside one of my friends (who is very much NOT an actress irl lol) and I went to see it in support of my friend. When I saw Adam come on stage I was like !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I tried to meet him afterward but he’d left pretty quickly. Classic Adam.

18806240Seems to play nice…until the claws are out!:  Which book had the biggest plot twist(s)?

It’s not the biggest plot twist ever, but one that sticks out to me from a book I read more recently that really got me – as in, I didn’t see it coming at all, but once it was revealed it made perfect sense all along (I’m not a huge fan of twists that don’t have a whole lot of evidence, or extremely vague evidence, leading up to them) – was a certain reveal in the book Bone Gap by Laura Ruby.  I literally put my book down and said OH out loud.

Cuddles: Which book character would you give a hug to?29939230

I’m not a very huggy person, so the other person is going to have to be a hugger or things’ll get awkward fast. In that case, I think I’ll choose Rhy Maresh from the Shades of Magic series- he definitely seemed in need of a hug from time to time, and he very much deserves one after that last book. And he’s just sweet and warm and outgoing.

17378508Catnip: What’s a book that made you have warm and fuzzy feels?

Okay listen. I was trying not to mention The Raven Cycle more than once. But. The court room scene. That’s all I have to say.

Cat breeds: Your favorite book(s)?

Harry Potter. The Raven Cycle. Six of Crows. A Little Life. The Secret History.

Getting the cat: How did you find your favorite book(s)?

So I was super against Harry Potter because 9 y/o me thought wizards were dumb (for literally no reason), but then my brother got the first book at a book fair, and it was just lying on the kitchen counter, and I was a bit curious by the hype because literally everyone in my 4th grade class was reading it, and since it was just sitting there…I picked it up and the rest is history. Exhibit A why I always like to give hyped books a chance.

Being in places they shouldn’t: Least favorite cliché?

Probably because I recently read The Bone Season (unpopular opinion alert), I think my least favorite is the domineering male who has some sort of power over a female, usually he’s in charge of her in some way, and she sees he’s actually got a semblance of heart and they fall in love. I’m not saying it can’t work, but I’m just not into it.

book_terribleThe good old cardboard box: Most underrated book series?

Most of the series I’ve read are pretty popular, but one that I was really into during my teen years was the Great and Terrible Beauty books by Libba Bray. Set in Victorian England, four boarding school girls gain access to some magical realms. I wasn’t part of any bookish communities except Harry Potter back then, so they could have been more popular than I realize, and the fact that they came out in the earlier 2000s could simply mean the hype around them died down, but they’re the most underrated series in my mind.

Bonus pic of my lil guy, Cookie Dough. Or as I’ve been calling him lately, “tiny kitten” (he’s not tiny nor a kitten). My nicknames for him fluctuate.

If you like cats, or just think this looks fun, consider yourself tagged!!

  1. I LOVE A Great and Terrible Beauty!! I definitely agree that it should be read/talked about more. It’s an amazing series.
Also, your cat is ADORABLE. And his name is my favorite ice cream flavor, which makes it 100X better 🙂
Thanks so much for the shout out!!

      • I have a Yorkie named Muffie. Sometimes I call her Mushka or Moosh, or Beeb lol. And I have two cats, my oldest female is named Nosey (when she was a baby I got her from a lady who let her kids name her because of the white stripe on her nose) and her pet name is BooBoo or Bunny, and my male is named Luca and sometimes I call him Bubba or Bubs. I noticed their pet names sometimes have B’s lol. And the order I got them goes backward in the alphabet with their names. Nosey, Muffie, Luca, lol. Do you have any other pets?

      • Awww cute!! Those are such adorable names and nicknames. I don’t have anyone more pets, just the one cat. I’d love another, but I don’t know how he’d feel if we brought another into the house, lol.

      • He can’t say no if its already done before he can protest ;-P lol. I had two rats for a while too and they were awesome! I miss them! They would give me cheek kisses and they were pretty intelligent! I can’t find anyone with rats these days.

  2. This is such a cute tag, and I loved seeing Cookie Dough. 😀 Poe the cockatiel gets nicknamed too – generally baby bird, or little bird, or feathered one, or puffle when she puffs out all of her feathers and looks rather round and comfortable.

The courtroom scene!!! I had to physically put the book down I was so overcome.

Wow I had no idea that you initially refused Harry Potter! Too funny.

    • Omg I love all these nicknames people have for their pets! Puffle is so cute!!

I almost answered that question with Ronan and Adam’s first kiss in TRK, which does make me feel very warm and fuzzy, but then I remembered the court room scene and it was really no question. I couldn’t stop smiling at my book during that scene. Though I kind of wanted to say Ronan’s rooftop scene with Declan, I love that scene so much too.

I have no idea what my problem was that I was so against Harry Potter, lol. It was like 9 year old me was too good for it or something, I didn’t want to follow the trend…but I’m VERY glad I gave in!

      • I love that so often we spend so much time trying to decide what to name our pets and in the end we so rarely call them by their actual names lol!

Ohh I think the first kiss actually made me squeal out loud and, again put the book down for a moment since I needed a bit to calm down! The courtroom definitely sticks with me too though.SO MANY GREAT SCENES in those books!

LOL I’m glad too! I also found my favourites through being super skeptical and all “We’ll just see about that!” Basically back in the Livejournal days there was this Post Secrets community where people anonymously posted their thoughts on things and it was about how fabulous Captive Prince was and from the concept obviously that’s a little really? original slave fic? but I gave it a try and fell in love when it was published in installments, and followed the author’s account and she mentioned how great these Lymond books were, and I was so into Captive Prince at the time I was like pfft they can’t possibly be better! And then I read them, and they were, and now I thrust them at anyone who seems susceptible! 😀

      • When I think about it, so many of my favorites I was skeptical of and didn’t think I’d like, it’s so ironic. Captive Prince definitely sounds like something I would not be a fan of, and in general I’m never really a fan of captive dynamics, but Laurent and Damen were done SO WELL. The balance between them was fantastic. Also, I got a copy of the first Lymond book!! Definitely going to read it soon!
